Tomo Monsma (Okihara), RMT, is a registered massage therapist practising from her own clinic at Unit 205, 50 Commercial Avenue, in Ajax, Ontario, reachable at (289) 278-1230. Tomo was born and raised in Hyogo, Japan, where she worked for four years as a physiotherapist after graduating from Kobe Synthesis Medical and Health Care College. She came to Canada in 2007, worked as a physiotherapy assistant in Toronto, and then retrained as a registered massage therapist through Durham College's three-year massage therapy programme, graduating as the highest-ranking student. After working at various clinics across the Durham region, including in Ajax, Bowmanville and Whitby, she opened her own practice. Her treatments begin with an assessment to identify the root cause of the issue, and incorporate General Swedish Massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and cupping, tailored to each client's needs and goals. She has treated conditions ranging from acute and chronic pain to mobility issues, and is familiar with neurological conditions such as stroke. Tomo is Dr. Vodder Level 2 certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage, a gentle technique described as calming the nervous system, reducing pain and edema, and enhancing the immune system, and holds continuing education in dynamic cupping and an oncology massage certificate. Massage sessions are priced at $75 (30 min) and $90 (45 min) for existing clients only, $106 (60 min) and $123 (75 min) plus HST; initial visits start at 60 or 75 minutes to include the intake. There is no direct billing — an invoice is provided for insurance submission. The clinic is on the second floor of the building, with the office entrance just south of Michael's Eatery; free parking and elevator access are available.
