Ajax waterfront trail extension wraps up early

The final boardwalk section near Carruthers Creek opens this weekend, three months ahead of the town's original schedule.

For the first time in eight years, the Generals are sleeping on top of the OHL East. A capacity crowd at the Tribute Communities Centre rose to its feet Tuesday as captain Ryan MacIntosh tipped in an empty-netter, sealing a win and a division banner.

"It's been a long road back to this," head coach Greg Walters said in the locker room afterward. For Walters, hired in 2022 to rebuild a club that had missed the playoffs three years running, this was vindication on ice.

Three goals, four lines, one identity

What's striking about this Generals team isn't a single star — it's the depth. The club's leading scorer did not register a point in the clinching game. Instead it was a rare goal from the back end and a fourth-line shift that swung the night.

Tuesday's game drew the largest crowd of the regular season and a notable contingent of out-of-towners. Memorial Cup talk has been quiet in Oshawa for years; it isn't anymore.

What happens next

  • Game 1 of the East Final opens Friday at the Tribute Centre.
  • If the Generals advance, they would host the OHL Final.
  • Downtown watch parties are expected for every away game.

Walters would not say which lineup he plans to run Friday. For a coach known for tinkering, that is a fair sign that the Generals do not need to change much.
